Canelo Alvarez keeps his undisputed super middleweight champion title after a win against William Scull on May 3. The fight ended with Canelo getting a unanimous decision, but it's got people talking for all the wrong reasons.

The match set a record, and not a good one. It had the fewest punches thrown in a 12-round fight in four decades. This cautious approach from both fighters didn't sit well with fans or boxing insiders.

Sampson Lewkowicz, who promotes David Benavidez, didn't hold back in his criticism. He shared his thoughts in a recent interview:

"It was shameful. Canelo didn't want to take a risk. He's not capable of fighting Benavidez."

Lewkowicz even said he fell asleep watching the fight. That's not the kind of review any boxer wants to hear.

The promoter's harsh words weren't just aimed at Canelo. He also criticized Scull's performance, saying it hurt the reputation of Cuban fighters. Lewkowicz contrasted this with David Morrell's brave showing against Benavidez.

Lewkowicz believes high-paid fighters need to show more courage in the ring. He stated:

"Fighters need to show guts. You're paid big money, you have to take risks."

This criticism adds to the growing pressure on Canelo to face David Benavidez. Fans have long wanted to see this matchup, but it hasn't happened yet. Benavidez has now moved up to 175 lbs, which could make arranging the fight even trickier.

If Canelo doesn't take on Benavidez soon, some worry his legacy might shift from that of a great champion to someone who avoids tough fights. It's a situation that's sure to keep boxing fans talking in the weeks to come.
