Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Terence Crawford are getting ready for a big boxing match this September. The fight will put Canelo's unified super-middleweight world titles on the line.
Mike Tyson, the legendary boxer, has changed his mind about this fight. At first, he wasn't keen on it. He told the It Is What It Is podcast:
"Too much weight. I don't like that fight. You know he had a close fight with the last guy he fought [Madrimov], because this guy was big and he was awkward, he shouldn't have fought that guy."
Tyson was worried about the weight difference between the fighters. But now, he's looking at it differently. He's remembered some boxing history that's changed his view:
"There's been men that have beat people, they're beating people bigger than them, two divisions bigger than them, it's not impossible. Henry Armstrong was a featherweight and he beat the middleweight champ! At 130lbs he beat the welterweight champ then he fought a draw with the middleweight champ, so I think size means nothing [but] determination means everything."
Tyson's new take is that a fighter's determination matters more than their size. He's backed this up with the example of Henry Armstrong, who won fights against much bigger opponents.
Before the big September showdown, Canelo's got another fight coming up. He'll face William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh. He'll be defending his IBF super-middleweight championship and trying to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs.
Crawford, who's 37 and nicknamed 'Bud', is expected to be there watching Canelo's fight with Scull.
The Canelo-Crawford bout in September could be one of the biggest fights in years. Both men are at the top of their game, and fans can't wait to see them face off.
This fight is shaping up to be a real test of skill, power, and determination. It'll be interesting to see if Crawford can overcome the weight difference and challenge Canelo for his titles.
