Chris Eubank Jr. beat Conor Benn in a close fight that went the full 12 rounds. The judges scored it 116-112 on all three cards for Eubank Jr.
Former world champion Kell Brook watched the action from ringside. He told Boxing King Media what he thought about the long-awaited clash between the sons of British boxing legends.
"What a fight, lived up to the hype. Yeah, it were a great fight, what can I say? Eubank did enough to win but very competitive all the way through. On the edge of your seat. It were very good."
Brook, who retired in May 2022, said both fighters put on a good show. He noticed Eubank Jr. got tired as the fight went on, while Benn had energy despite moving up in weight.
"Eubank is no Golovkin, you could see the way he started to look tired but Conor had that energy moving up the weight. Equally matched. It lived up to to the hype, they didn't let the fans down."
The scoring was close until the end when Eubank Jr. pulled ahead, according to Brook. He thinks Benn will learn a lot from this fight.
"It were neck and neck then I had the last couple of rounds where [Eubank] took it. I think Conor will have learnt loads from that fight. He's a smaller fighter, I'd like him to use his jab more, more twitches. But he didn't do much wrong to be fair. He fought to the best of his ability."
Watching the action got Brook's competitive juices flowing again. The retired fighter even claimed he could beat both men.
"It has whetted my appetite, it's in my blood, none of them two would live with me. I'd still school both of them."
There's already talk of a rematch between Eubank Jr. and Benn, possibly in September. But Benn's promoter Eddie Hearn thinks his fighter should look for big fights in his natural weight class instead.
As for Brook, time will tell if the excitement of watching from ringside will lead to a comeback. For now, Eubank Jr. and Benn can be proud of putting on a fight that lived up to years of hype and expectation.
