Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to face off in their rescheduled grudge match after some drama with the weigh-in. The fight, scheduled for April 25, 2025, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, has been called one of the biggest in British boxing history.
The bout was originally planned for October 2022 but got cancelled when Benn tested positive for a banned substance twice. He gave up his BBBofC license at the time, but it looks like he's got it back now.
At the weigh-in, Eubank Jr had some trouble. He needed to hit 160 pounds but came in at 160.05 on his first try. He got it right on the second attempt. Later, he had to meet a rehydration limit of 170 pounds, which he managed at 169.5.
Benn, moving up from welterweight, weighed in at 156.4 pounds, surprisingly well under the limit.
Chris Eubank Sr has voiced worries about both fighters. He's particularly concerned about his son, who's 35 and struggling with weight cuts. In an interview with Carl Froch, Eubank Sr said:
"The obvious answer is my son, because I know what it is at 35. I retired at 32-years-old, he's 35, I couldn't do anymore after 32. At 35 he's still getting down to 160."
Eubank Sr also thinks the fight might hurt Benn's career:
"Conor is destroying his career or it's Matchroom that's destroying his career because once you go up to 160, coming back down to 147, it doesn't work."
Some distressing clips of Eubank Jr's weight cut have popped up on social media, adding to the concern about his ability to make weight safely.
With all the drama leading up to the fight, fans are eager to see how these two rivals will perform in the ring. The match is just hours away, and the boxing world is watching closely.
