Terence Crawford and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez might face off in a mega-fight this September. The bout between these modern pound-for-pound greats has got everyone talking, including former super-middleweight world champion Chris Eubank Sr.
Crawford wants to become a five-division world champion, but he'll face his toughest test yet. Canelo, on the other hand, has a fight coming up. He'll take on IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. If Canelo wins, he'll be undisputed at 168lbs for the second time.
Eubank Sr shared his thoughts on the potential Crawford-Canelo matchup on his YouTube channel 'Call Chris Eubank'. He doesn't think the fight should happen.
"Crawford, a brilliant, talented, fabulous, extraordinary champion of the old school. Old school has to become new school, when he starts going up in weight to fight a Canelo, it's against the rules. If I drive 100 miles an hour in London, it's against the rules. As much as we may want to see a Canelo against a Crawford, the weights are wrong and so it cannot happen."
Eubank Sr compares allowing the fight to speeding in London. He believes the weight difference between the two fighters makes the bout against the rules.
We'll likely hear an official announcement about Crawford vs Canelo soon after Canelo's fight next month, assuming everything goes smoothly for him.
Despite Eubank Sr's concerns, many fans can't wait to see these two champions face off. It's shaping up to be the biggest fight in boxing right now.
