Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather might face off in a fantasy match-up, according to Shane Mosley. The former champion believes Mayweather would come out on top, but doesn't rule out Davis' power as a game-changer.
Mayweather and Davis used to work together in the early stages of Davis' career. Their relationship ended in 2022 due to financial issues, leading to a public exchange of insults on social media.
Mosley, who fought Mayweather in May 2010, shared his thoughts on the hypothetical bout in an interview with The Art Of Dialogue.
"Floyd Mayweather I think wins. Pretty easily at 135. He's a little taller, he's faster, he's a boxer. I don't think Gervonta would be able to get close to him. He wouldn't be able to counterpunch Floyd cause he's too short."
Mosley pointed out that Mayweather's height and speed advantages would make it tough for Davis to land his shots. He also noted that Mayweather's boxing skills would keep Davis at bay.
However, Mosley didn't completely discount Davis' chances. He compared Davis' power to his own when he was younger, reminding fans of the moment he rocked Mayweather in their 2010 bout. Mosley had Mayweather in trouble early in that fight, buckling his legs with some big shots.
Mosley also mentioned that Mayweather didn't like fighting southpaws in the past, which could give Davis an edge.
Mayweather, now 48 and hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, hasn't had a professional fight since beating Conor McGregor in 2017. He's been keeping busy with exhibition bouts against Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa, and John Gotti III.
Davis, known for his knockout power, is gearing up for a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. Their first fight ended in a controversial draw, setting the stage for an exciting sequel.
While this fantasy match-up remains just that - fantasy - it's clear that the boxing world still loves to speculate about Mayweather's skills, even in retirement.
