Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the popular Mexican boxer and world champion, has a message for Mexican migrants in the United States who are worried about deportation under the Trump administration. The boxing star shared his thoughts in a recent interview, offering advice and support to those facing uncertain times.
Since President Donald Trump's administration began in April, many migrants have felt increased pressure due to stricter immigration policies. Trump signed an executive order that reinforced these policies and imposed greater sanctions, leaving many undocumented immigrants at risk of deportation.
Canelo, who's an influential figure both in Mexico and the United States, addressed these concerns in an interview with the Mayan Tiger Sports Journalist channel. He urged migrants not to let fear control their actions.
"I think that fear is what consumes you, fear is what consumes your head, not to do, what if it can happen or it can not happen."
The champion boxer reminded migrants of their original purpose for coming to the U.S., saying:
"In the end, I think everyone came here to improve, to have a better life, to get ahead."
Canelo suggested that migrants should carefully evaluate their situation:
"I personally think they should analyze whether it is worth being here being afraid, not going out, being fugitives from the law, if it is worth staying here or going to their country."
He emphasized that opportunities for success exist everywhere:
"Everywhere, when you work, when you motivate yourself, when you go out to work, you go out to do things, you can do it anywhere."
The boxer advised migrants to weigh their options carefully:
"More than anything else, you have to weigh up 'what am I doing here, I'm doing this, it's getting me ahead, I'm doing well here, there'. Look at the balance, know if I'm going to go over there or it's close to my family, put it in a balance."
Above all, Canelo stressed the importance of maintaining peace of mind:
"But everything in life, the first thing you have to do is to be at peace, to be calm, wherever you are there is nothing like having peace of mind. And I think if I can advise you anything is that wherever you are, but be calm, have peace to be able to see things clearly."
Canelo's words come at a time when many Mexican migrants in the U.S. are grappling with difficult decisions. His status as a respected figure in both countries gives weight to his advice, offering a perspective that bridges both sides of the border.
