Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has offered some unexpected advice to Jake Paul. The super middleweight champion set aside their ongoing verbal jabs to share some wisdom on marriage with the influencer-turned-boxer.
Paul, known as 'The Problem Child' in the ring, recently announced his engagement to speed skater Jutta Leerdam. When asked about it, Canelo didn't hesitate to offer his thoughts.
"All the best to him and all the best to his girlfriend. Patience and good love in the relationship," Canelo told TMZ Sports.
Canelo's advice comes from experience. He's been with his wife, Fernanda Gomez, since 2016. The couple got married in 2021.
The Mexican champion also addressed the possibility of a fight with Paul. While he didn't completely rule it out, Canelo made it clear it's not on his radar right now.
"I never say no, because you never know what happens next, but as an official boxer, no, I don't think so."
Instead, Canelo's focus is on his upcoming unification fight. He'll face Cuban IBF champion William Scull on May 3 at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"It's a good fight, he's a good boxer, Cuban style, and it's going to be a tough fight, but I've fought everybody that's out there, I fight all the styles that are out there and I can adapt to anything."
Scull comes into the fight with an undefeated record of 23 wins, including 9 knockouts. The bout promises to be a clash of styles, with Canelo's power punching against Scull's Cuban boxing technique.
As for Paul, he'll have to keep waiting for his shot at Canelo. For now, he can focus on his upcoming wedding and continue his boxing career against other opponents.
