Ryan Garcia says other fighters hit harder than Gervonta Davis. The 26-year-old boxer shared his thoughts on the punching power of his opponents in a recent interview.
Garcia's fight with Davis ended when he couldn't get up after a body shot in the seventh round. Davis also knocked him down with a head shot in the second round. Despite this, Garcia claims Davis' punches "didn't hurt at all" and says a rematch without weight restrictions would be "easy" for him.
Garcia thinks Davis gets knockouts because of his accuracy, not his power. He named three fighters who he believes hit harder than 'Tank'.
"When he touched my back it felt like I was getting hit by a rock."
That's how Garcia described Romero Duno's punches. Garcia won that fight in the first round.
Next on his list is Oscar Duarte. Garcia said, "He hit hard. He had hands of stone, that s*** hurt." Garcia won that fight too, stopping Duarte in the eighth round.
The third fighter Garcia named might surprise some people. It's Devin Haney, who Garcia fought recently.
"Haney caught me, Gervonta I didn't really [feel anything]. It wasn't a hard fight I was just weak."
Garcia knocked Haney down three times in their fight. He won on points, but the result was later changed to no contest because Garcia failed a doping test.
These claims are interesting because Davis has a reputation as one of boxing's biggest punchers. Out of his 30 fights, only three have gone the distance.
Garcia and Haney might fight again later this year. Both have fights scheduled for May 2, so any rematch would happen after that.
