Rolly Romero got riled up after a fan disrespected Gervonta Davis on the street. The incident happened when Davis was hanging out with friends next to his car.
A video of the encounter shows a fan greeting Davis enthusiastically. Davis fist-bumps him, but things take a turn when the fan challenges him to "do a fade." Davis' attitude changes, becoming cold and nonchalant. When the fan tries to fist-bump Davis' friends, they shut him down. The fan walks away muttering to himself.
Romero, who lost to Davis in 2022, didn't hold back his thoughts on the situation. He told Clocked N' Loaded on X:
"I wouldn't have been waiting. That bastard wants to make a quick buck. Fuck that shit. I mean, dude, you're fat. Respect the f***ing talent. If you want to be at that level, then come and do it right."
Romero's reaction might surprise some, given his history with Davis. But it turns out Romero feels grateful to Davis for the lessons he learned from their fight. In an interview with Cigar Talk last year, Romero said:
"Thanks to that fight, I now understand it a little better, and like I said, not even in boxing. I owe it to him, because it's more important to me than money."
Since losing to Davis, Romero has had a mixed run. He won the WBA super lightweight title by stopping Ismael Barroso in the 9th round in 2023. But he lost it to Isaac Cruz later that year. Recently, he got back to winning ways against Manuel Jaimes.
Now, Romero's getting ready for a big fight. He'll face Ryan Garcia on a major card in Riyadh Season this May.
As for Davis, he stayed remarkably calm during the whole incident. The 30-year-old champ didn't let the disrespectful fan get under his skin.
Fans online weren't as calm. They slammed the instigator for his blatant disrespect towards Davis.
