Edgar Berlanga bounced back from his loss to Canelo Alvarez with a bang. The Brooklyn boxer, known as "The Chosen One," knocked out Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the first round of their recent fight.
Berlanga didn't waste time showing he's still a force to be reckoned with. After the quick win, he spoke to iFL TV about his performance and future plans.
"I'm on a different level now. I'm going to do the same to Plant, Munguia, Charlo. I've got dynamite in these hands."
The 23-1 fighter's confidence seems to be sky-high. He's already eyeing big names in the division, including Caleb Plant, Jermall Charlo, and Jaime Munguia. These fighters have all shared the ring with Canelo Alvarez, except for Charlo.
Berlanga also shared some advice he got from boxing legend Floyd Mayweather:
"As Floyd Mayweather told me, 'you've got dynamite in those hands, just let them fly, nobody's going to be standing there with you. Your punch is very strong and you're very smart,'"
While Berlanga sets his sights on the division's top fighters, they're busy with their own careers. Caleb Plant last fought in September 2024, while Jermall Charlo hasn't been in the ring since 2023.
Jaime Munguia, who's been training alongside Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, is gearing up for a rematch in April. He'll face Bruno Surace, who shocked everyone with a knockout win over Munguia in Tijuana last December.
As for Canelo, the 62-2-2 fighter from Jalisco remains the man to beat in the division. Berlanga's recent win puts him back in the conversation, but he'll need to keep winning to earn another shot at the champ.
With his explosive power and renewed confidence, Berlanga's journey back to the top of the super middleweight division will be one to watch.
