Oleksandr Usyk says Anthony Joshua is a better boxer than Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian champ has fought both British heavyweights and knows their styles well.
Usyk has an impressive record. He's the former undisputed cruiserweight champion and currently holds all the heavyweight belts. He's never lost a pro fight. Usyk beat Joshua twice, once in 2021 and again in 2022. Last year, he knocked out Dubois in his first heavyweight title defense, though he went down for a while from a shot ruled low.
In an interview, Usyk explained why he thinks Joshua is the better boxer. He said:
"Anthony Joshua is Olympic champion, two-time world champion. Daniel is a young boy, yeah? But Anthony is the best boxer."
Usyk made it clear that comparing the two isn't really fair. In another chat, he added:
"You cannot compare the two guys. These are completely different types of athletes. The only thing that is in common is that they both are boxers."
Joshua and Dubois recently faced each other. Dubois surprised many by knocking out Joshua in the fifth round to win the IBF title. A lot of people thought Joshua didn't look his best that night.
Since that fight, neither boxer has stepped back in the ring. There was talk about a rematch, but it didn't happen because Joshua had some minor injuries. Dubois was set to fight Joseph Parker in February but got sick and had to pull out.
Dubois has been pushing for another shot at Usyk and all those belts. But it looks like that's not happening soon. The WBO has told Usyk he needs to fight Parker next instead of Dubois.
It's clear Usyk respects both British fighters. But based on his experience in the ring with them, he sees Joshua as the more skilled boxer. We'll have to wait and see how things play out for all three heavyweights in their next fights.
