Jake Paul has spilled the beans on why a fight with Floyd Mayweather won't happen. The YouTube sensation turned boxer says Mayweather's weight demand makes the bout impossible.
Paul's boxing journey continues after his big win against Mike Tyson in November. The match, held at AT&T; Stadium in Texas, ended with Paul claiming a one-sided unanimous decision victory. It marked Tyson's first professional bout in nearly two decades, at the age of 58.
After the Tyson fight, Paul set his sights on new challenges. A potential clash with pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez fell through when Canelo chose to sign with Riyadh Season for a fight against Terence Crawford.
Rumors then swirled about a possible matchup with Floyd Mayweather. The five-weight world champion retired in 2017 with an undefeated 50-0 record but has since taken part in exhibition bouts, including one against Jake's brother Logan in June 2021. Mayweather has repeatedly claimed a fight against Jake would be a walk in the park.
But Paul says Mayweather's demand makes the fight a non-starter. In a recent interview, Paul revealed:
"He [Mayweather] wouldn't sign. He said I had to weigh 160. It's not even physically possible."
This weight requirement puts the kibosh on any potential bout between the two, as Paul can't safely make that weight.
While the Mayweather fight looks unlikely, Paul's dance card isn't empty. A three-weight world champion has offered to come out of retirement to face Paul and gain revenge for Tyson. As the YouTuber-turned-boxer weighs his options, fans will have to wait and see who he picks as his next opponent.
