The WBA Lightweight World Champion Davis didn't have it all his own way against challenger Roach. Roach stood toe-to-toe with the hard-hitting Davis and gave an excellent account of himself.
Davis felt Roach's power early. At one point, Davis landed a left hand on Roach, but Roach fired back and wobbled the champion. This exchange showed Davis that he couldn't underestimate his opponent.
The fight's most controversial moment came in the ninth round. Davis took a knee, but referee Steve Willis didn't call it a knockdown. This decision potentially snatched victory away from Roach.
WBC belt holder Shakur Stevenson shared his thoughts on the fight with Cigar Talk. He believes Roach won the fight.
"I seen Lamont winning. I really felt like he was in control of the fight. I think Tank had good moments, I feel like when he was boxing boring he was more in control. When he tried to fight I felt like Lamont was on point."
Stevenson thinks Davis underestimated Roach:
"I feel as though Tank didn't understand or realise how good Lamont was. He kind of was sleeping on him. I felt as though Lamont was catching him when he was not expecting it. [Tank] would throw and he's not used to certain s**t coming back. When s**t start coming back, it caught him by surprise."
After the majority draw was announced, Davis called for an immediate rematch with Roach, possibly as early as May.
Stevenson, who's held the WBC belt since late 2023, recently defended his title against late replacement Josh Padley. He'll likely defend his title again before discussing a unification bout with Davis, a fight he's been chasing for some time.
