Davis, known as 'Tank', put on an underwhelming performance against challenger Roach. The match took an unexpected turn in the ninth round when Davis took a knee. Referee Steve Willis didn't count it as a knockdown, a decision that significantly impacted the outcome. If counted, Roach would've won on two scorecards, securing a majority decision victory.
Davis said he's open to a rematch with Roach, but it won't be his next fight. There's speculation that Davis might have already signed for his next bout before Roach's impressive performance.
Keyshawn Davis, who recently knocked out Denys Berinchyk to become a 135-pound world champion, shared his thoughts on the fight:
"I feel like Lamont definitely won. A draw? It is what it is. I ain't hating on the decision, but I did feel like Lamont Roach pulled it off … I feel like they need to run it back."
Davis didn't hold back when assessing his own abilities in the lightweight division:
"I'm the best at 135, man … Either one of them guys, I'm knocking them out, word … I'm telling you, if you give me either or before their rematch, I'm f***ing that rematch. They getting put. I ain't playing. I'm young and I'm on fire."
The young champion also had a message for his critics:
"Don't say 'Tank will knock me out' no more. I'm shutting that s**t down right now. Don't fix your mouth to even say this man could knock me out. Crazy."
With Davis, Shakur Stevenson, and Vasiliy Lomachenko all holding titles at lightweight, the division looks set for some exciting matchups in the near future.
