Terence Crawford's Surprising Take on Shakur Stevenson's Latest Win: "I Expected More"

Ronald Crawley Feb. 23, 2025, 8:10 a.m.

Stevenson's win didn't come as quickly as some fans wanted. They thought he should've finished off Padley sooner, given that the UK fighter had only a few days to prepare.

But Terence Crawford, who watched the fight, didn't agree with the criticism. He said:

"He had a late replacement, he had to adjust and he got the job done. It don't matter if he did it in the first round or last round. He got the job done."

Padley put up a good fight despite the short notice. He flew in from the UK just days before the match. Stevenson controlled most of the action, leading to the stoppage at the end of the ninth round.

During the fight, Gervonta Davis, another top lightweight, tweeted "lol". It seemed he wasn't impressed with what he saw.

Crawford dismissed Davis's comment:

"What can you say? He won the fight. What are you lol-ing about?"

When asked about a potential fight between Stevenson and Davis, Crawford showed interest:

"It's a great fight. That's why we all want to see it."

Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach next weekend. The boxing world will watch closely to see how his performance compares to Stevenson's recent win.
