Keyshawn Davis, the new WBO lightweight champion, wants to beat Gervonta Davis. He says he'll do it just like Terence Crawford beat Errol Spence Jr.
Davis won the WBO lightweight title on February 15, 2025, in New York City. He beat Denys Berinchyk to get the belt. Right after his win, Davis called out Gervonta Davis, saying, "Hey Gervonta – knock, knock."
Davis' trainer, Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre, thinks his fighter can beat Gervonta Davis the same way Crawford beat Spence. That fight happened in July 2023, when Crawford knocked out Spence in the ninth round to become the undisputed welterweight champion.
Davis agrees with his trainer. He said:
"Exactly, how he said it. I see myself putting the same beating on Gervonta as Terence did [to Spence]. I feel like his style is perfect for my style. I'm young, I don't think it will go the full 12 but I can fight 12 rounds if it comes down to it. I'm smarter than him inside and outside of the ring. I'm just smarter than him period."
Davis believes he's got what it takes to beat 'Tank'. He thinks he's smarter both in and out of the ring. He's ready to go 12 rounds if he needs to, but he doesn't think it'll last that long.
Right now, Gervonta Davis holds the WBA lightweight title. He's got a fight coming up on March 1, 2025, against Lamont Roach Jr. If he wins that, we might see him face off against Keyshawn Davis later in the year.
Davis, known as 'The Businessman', is confident he can outsmart 'Tank' in the ring. He thinks Gervonta's style plays right into his hands. It looks like we've got an exciting matchup brewing in the lightweight division.
