Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin fought three times in a memorable boxing trilogy. The Mexican superstar has now shared his thoughts on Golovkin's famous punching power.
The pair first met in September 2017 with three of the four world middleweight titles on the line. The 12-round bout ended in a split draw after an incredibly close fight.
One year later, they clashed again at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo won via majority decision in a cagey affair with a controversial conclusion. He captured the WBC, WBA, and IBF middleweight titles.
Their final meeting came in September 2022. Canelo won by unanimous decision, defending his undisputed super middleweight championship. He boxed perfectly against a Golovkin who seemed past his prime.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Canelo rated Golovkin's renowned power.
"It's nothing out of this world. Power is probably an 8 or 9 out of 10."
Golovkin, now 42, hasn't fought since his third battle with Canelo almost three years ago. While he hasn't officially announced his retirement, he has no concrete plans to return to the ring. The Kazakh fighter leaves behind a legacy as one of the greatest knockout artists in boxing history.
Canelo, at 34, continues his reign as the undisputed super middleweight champion. He's looking ahead to his next challenge in the ring.
