Roy Jones Jr thinks Tyson Fury would have an edge over Anthony Joshua in a potential fight. The boxing legend shared his thoughts in a recent interview, basing his prediction on how both fighters performed against Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury, known as "The Gypsy King," announced his retirement in January at the age of 36. His last fight was on December 21, where he suffered his second consecutive defeat against Oleksandr Usyk.
On the other hand, Joshua, or "AJ," is gearing up for his return to the ring. The 35-year-old's most recent bout was in September at Wembley Stadium. He faced Daniel Dubois and got knocked out in the fifth round after being floored three times. Before that, Joshua had lost twice to Usyk.
A fight between Fury and Joshua has been talked about for years and would be the biggest match in British boxing. However, with Fury's retirement, fans might never know what could have happened if they had faced each other.
Speaking to iFL TV, Roy Jones Jr shared his thoughts on the potential matchup:
"I would probably give Fury the edge. Looking at his two fights with Usyk, and Joshua's two fights with Usyk, I think he [Fury] made a little better adjustments fighting Usyk than Joshua did, so I would probably give him [Fury] the edge."
Jones admitted it wasn't an easy choice, as he likes both fighters. He based his prediction on how each boxer adjusted their strategy when facing Usyk.
Even though Fury said he's retiring, it's not clear if he'll stick to that decision. The chance to fight Joshua might be enough to bring him back to the ring. For now, fans can only imagine what might have been if these two British boxing stars had finally met in the ring.
