The fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn was supposed to happen back in October 2022. But it got called off when Benn failed a drug test. Now, almost two and a half years later, they're trying again. Benn has been cleared to fight after working to prove his innocence.
Eubank Sr isn't happy about a few things. He's worried about how much weight his son has to lose to make the 160lbs limit. He's made his feelings clear about this weight loss before. There's also talk of a rule that says Eubank Jr can't put on more than 10lbs after the weigh-in on fight day.
Speaking on the Call Chris Eubank YouTube channel, Eubank Sr said:
"My answer is no, the fight will not happen. Not because of anything other than it breaks the rules. Rules is what we abide by. If we don't abide by the rules then we are being reckless. We're being reckless with what? With the lives of these fighters. Not just Conor Benn and Christopher Livingstone Eubank Jr, but with the lives of all participants of combat sports. Do not be distracted by re-hydration clauses."
He thinks the fight is dangerous and goes against boxing rules. He's not just worried about his son and Benn, but all fighters in combat sports.
But promoter Ben Shalom says everything's signed and the fight will happen as planned. He's hoping Eubank Sr will change his mind and get involved.
It's a tricky situation. The fight's set to go ahead, but one of boxing's biggest names doesn't want it to happen. We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
