Wladimir Klitschko might step back into the boxing ring. The former heavyweight champion's promoter, Tom Loeffler, has hinted at a possible comeback for the 48-year-old Ukrainian boxer.
Klitschko, known as "Dr Steel Hammer," dominated the heavyweight division for years. He held multiple world titles and racked up an impressive 25-win streak after teaming up with legendary trainer Manny Steward. But his reign came to an end in 2015 when Tyson Fury outpointed him, shocking the boxing world.
In 2017, Klitschko faced Anthony Joshua at Wembley with two major world titles on the line. Joshua won by knockout, and Klitschko hung up his gloves shortly after, without getting the rematch he wanted with Fury.
Now, there's talk of a comeback. Loeffler shared some interesting thoughts in a recent interview with ESNEWS:
"Wladimir said he would fight for a title and break George Foreman's record so we will see. He's 48, 49 in March. If anyone can do it, Wladimir can do it."
Klitschko's conditions for a return are clear: he'll only fight for a title, aiming to become the oldest heavyweight champion ever. A bout with fellow Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk is off the table, but Fury remains a possibility. Loeffler added, "He has an open cheque with Fury."
The IBF championship fight on February 22 in Saudi Arabia between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker could open up another opportunity. The winner might end up facing Klitschko, with Dubois already expressing interest in such a matchup.
Loeffler's stance is clear: "I'd like to see him back in the ring." As Klitschko approaches his 49th birthday, the boxing world watches with interest to see if the former champion will lace up his gloves one more time.
