Riddick Bowe thinks Mike Tyson would beat Tyson Fury in a fantasy fight. The former unified heavyweight champion shared his opinion recently, picking "Iron Mike" over the "Gypsy King" due to his speed and punching power.
Many boxing fans dream about a matchup between Tyson Fury and Mike Tyson. It's an interesting scenario, especially since Fury got his name from the legendary "Iron Mike."
Fury has had an impressive career. He first became World Heavyweight Champion in 2015 when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko. After a break, he came back and won the title again by beating Deontay Wilder. But recently, things haven't gone his way. He lost to Oleksandr Usyk in May last year and then again in a rematch. After these losses, Fury announced his retirement.
Mike Tyson, known as "The Baddest Man On The Planet," was the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. He's still the youngest world heavyweight champion ever. Tyson started his career with a bang, winning his first 19 professional fights by knockout. Twelve of those knockouts happened in the first round. He beat big names like Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick, and Frank Bruno.
Riddick Bowe, who was the unified heavyweight champion in the 1990s and a good friend of Mike Tyson, shared his thoughts on this fantasy matchup. He told YouTube channel iFL TV:
"Mike Tyson. I think because of Mike's speed and his punching power, as long as someone is standing in front of him, Mike will destroy them. And Fury doesn't move! So Mike would kill him."
Bowe believes Tyson's speed and power would be too much for Fury, even with Fury's height and reach advantage. He thinks Fury's style of not moving much would play right into Tyson's hands.
Frank Bruno, who fought Mike Tyson twice in his career, also weighed in on this fantasy matchup. But his prediction wasn't mentioned in the report.
It's fun to imagine these fights between champions from different eras. While we'll never know for sure what would happen, it's clear that Mike Tyson's legendary power and speed still impress fighters like Riddick Bowe, even years after his prime.
