Frank Bruno thinks Oleksandr Usyk wouldn't have stood a chance against top heavyweights from his era. The former world champ shared his thoughts on how Usyk might have fared against fighters like Lennox Lewis.
Usyk's had an impressive run in boxing. He started with a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. After that, he turned pro and quickly made a name for himself. By 2018, he'd become the undisputed cruiserweight champion. Then he moved up to heavyweight and really shook things up.
The Ukrainian southpaw beat Anthony Joshua not once, but twice. He followed that up with a win over Daniel Dubois. But his biggest achievement? Beating Tyson Fury twice to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Despite all these achievements, Bruno's not convinced Usyk would've done as well in his day. In an interview with iFL TV, Bruno said:
"I don't think in my era he would have got this far. In his era, he's done very well. I'm not being b****y when I say that, I'm only talking from the heart. He wouldn't have stood [with the likes of Lennox Lewis]. They're too big heavyweights for him, naturally big guys, you know."
Bruno believes Usyk's success comes down to the era he's fighting in. He thinks the bigger heavyweights from his time, like Lennox Lewis, would've been too much for Usyk to handle.
Even though Usyk's accomplished everything in boxing, he might not be done yet. There's talk of a second undisputed fight against the winner of Dubois versus Joseph Parker. It looks like Usyk's still got some fight left in him, no matter what era he's in.
