Floyd Mayweather, the retired five-weight world champion with a perfect 50-0 record, shared his thoughts on the two fighters. He spoke to the Come And Talk 2 Me Podcast about their different strengths.
"The biggest puncher at 135 would probably be Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, but the most skilful fighter at 135 would be, hands down, Shakur Stevenson."
Mayweather, known as 'TBE' (The Best Ever), emphasized the importance of skills in boxing. He compared Stevenson to boxing great Pernell Whitaker, noting that Whitaker "wasn't a huge puncher" but was "very exciting, very tough, and fought everybody."
"Shakur's trying do the same thing. He wants to fight the best they got out there. He's asking can he fight the best."
Both Davis and Stevenson have fights coming up. Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach in March. Stevenson, the WBC champion at 135 pounds, will face Floyd Schofield a month earlier.
A matchup between Davis and Stevenson would be one of the biggest fights in boxing right now. However, Davis doesn't seem interested in the bout based on his recent comments.
As the lightweight division heats up, fans will keep a close eye on these two champions. Their upcoming fights could set the stage for even bigger matchups in the future.
