Malik Scott thinks Oleksandr Usyk will beat Tyson Fury even worse in their upcoming rematch. Scott, a former heavyweight contender turned trainer, has sparred with both fighters and helped prepare Deontay Wilder to face Fury.
In their first fight this past May, Usyk scored a split decision victory over Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. The Ukrainian had Fury in serious trouble during the ninth round of that bout.
Scott shared his thoughts on the rematch in an interview with Manouk Akopyan. He believes Usyk's stubborn nature will be too much for Fury to handle.
I just think Usyk is too stubborn for Fury to put up with. I think the punches that hurt you the most are the shots you don't see. You don't have to be a hard puncher to get guys in trouble. Usyk has a good understanding of that.
Scott doesn't think Fury's size advantage will be enough to overcome Usyk's skill and ring IQ. He warned against the idea that Fury can simply walk Usyk down due to the size difference.
'Boxing consumers' think he's bigger so he can just walk right to him. S**t, nobody just walk right to Oleksandr Usyk. I think Fury gets beat worse if he just walks right to him. He'll be walking into all kinds of traps. I just don't think Fury can beat Usyk. I really don't.
The rematch is set for December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury will look to reclaim his titles and prove Scott's prediction wrong. However, based on Scott's analysis, Usyk's craftiness and ability to set traps could make it an even tougher night for the "Gypsy King" this time around.
