Canelo Spots Crawford's Weakness, Suddenly Open To Mega-Fight: "I see an opportunity"

Canelo's career spans 66 fights, with only two losses. He fell short against Floyd Mayweather at a lighter weight and Dmitry Bivol at light-heavyweight. Now, he's looking at his next fight, expected in May 2025.

Crawford recently moved up to super-welterweight (154lbs), beating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision. It marked the first time in 10 fights that Crawford went the distance. Now, he's eyeing a jump of two weight classes to challenge Canelo.

In an interview with Sway, Canelo shared his thoughts on the potential matchup:

"I'm in. Why not? Don't get me wrong, he's a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it's an easy fight. Easy money. If the money is right, I'm in, because I don't like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he don't move that much now. So if the money is right I'm in right now … there are weight classes for a reason."

Canelo's stance has shifted. He used to dislike Crawford's movement-heavy style but noticed less movement in Crawford's last fight. This change has piqued his interest.

Fans hope to see Canelo vs Crawford next. Crawford believes his elite skills will make up for the size difference. But Canelo stresses the importance of weight classes, viewing the potential fight as "easy money" if the price is right.

The ball's in Crawford's court now. He'll need to meet Canelo's financial expectations to make this cross-division clash a reality.
