Crawford wants to face Canelo badly. It's the main thing keeping him in boxing right now. He just won a world title in his fourth weight class, beating Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds in August. He's even turned down fights with Vergil Ortiz and Sebastian Fundora to chase this dream match.
Canelo wasn't into the idea at first. He said he wouldn't get credit for beating a smaller guy. But now he's changed his tune a bit. He's open to it if the money's right.
Arum, who worked with Crawford for years at Top Rank, doesn't give him much of a chance against Canelo. He told Fight Hub TV:
"I think Canelo wipes the floor with him."
Arum explained his reasoning:
"Canelo is used to fighting at a particular level. Crawford can't hurt Canelo, but Canelo can hurt Crawford."
It's worth noting that Arum got it right when he said Crawford would beat Spence. So his opinion carries some weight.
Canelo just had an easy win over Edgar Berlanga in September. He wanted to fight Dmitry Bivol again, but that might not happen now that Bivol lost to Artur Beterbiev. This could open the door for Crawford to get the fight he's been after.
Crawford's got support from Turki Alalshikh of Riyadh Season to make this happen. We'll have to wait and see if the two champions can agree on terms to make this intriguing matchup a reality.
