Carl Froch wants Anthony Joshua to take a step back after his recent loss to Daniel Dubois. The former super-middleweight champion thinks Joshua shouldn't rush into a rematch.
Joshua lost to Dubois in September, missing his chance to become a three-time world heavyweight champion. The fight ended with Joshua getting stopped in the fifth round.
This loss comes after Joshua's back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk. Before that, he had a similar situation with Andy Ruiz Jr. Joshua lost to Ruiz in June 2019 but won the rematch six months later.
Froch and Joshua have had their differences. They were both trained by Rob McCracken, but Joshua left after losing to Usyk. When Joshua criticized McCracken's training, Froch called him a 'plastic gangster'.
Despite their rocky relationship, Froch has some advice for Joshua. In a YouTube video, he said:
"I honestly don't think he should be jumping straight back in with an immediate rematch with Daniel Dubious. If the fight had gone differently and he got caught cold with a one-shot knockout then there is an argument for an immediate rematch."
Froch thinks Joshua should get back in the gym and do some light sparring. He believes this will help Joshua reassess and gather his thoughts.
He also suggests waiting to see what happens in the Fury vs Usyk rematch. This could help Joshua decide how much he wants to continue boxing.
Froch has an interesting idea if Fury loses to Usyk. He thinks a Joshua vs Fury fight could be huge. It would fill Wembley Stadium and give Joshua a massive payday before potentially ending his career. If Joshua wins, he could exit the sport with his head held high.
While Joshua seems keen on a rematch with Dubois, others have different opinions. Zhilei Zhang thinks it might be time for Joshua to retire.
Whatever Joshua decides, it's clear he has some big choices ahead. His next move could shape the rest of his boxing career.
