Former Champion Predicts Benavidez Will Shock Canelo: "He's Got Something Special"

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and David Benavidez might face off in a super-middleweight showdown. Fans want this fight more than any other in boxing right now.

'Canelo' holds all the belts at 168 lbs. He'll defend his titles against Edgar Berlanga on September 14 in Las Vegas. But he's not keen on fighting Benavidez. Alvarez even said he wants $200 million to take on 'The Mexican Monster'.

Benavidez, a former champ himself, got tired of waiting. He moved up to light-heavyweight. Now he's in line to fight the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol next month.

James Toney, a retired 168 lbs champ and Hall of Famer, shared his thoughts on the situation. He spoke to FightHype.com about the potential matchup.

"Benavidez is a bad boy. He wants to fight, he's trying to f**k you up. They are the type of fighters I like. Everyone knows how James Toney used to fight, we're coming for the lights out."

'Lights Out' Toney didn't hold back when talking about 'Canelo'.

"Canelo has little nuts. That's all it is, he's scared to death, Canelo is scared."

Toney thinks Benavidez would win easily if they fought.

"Canelo knows that if he fights Benavidez then he's getting knocked out – he's going to sleep! It doesn't matter when he fights him, if he fights him right now he'll steam roll him."

For now, boxing fans will have to wait and see if this dream fight ever happens.
