David Benavidez Hints at Unexpected Reason for Rejecting Crawford Bout: "Not About Money"

None

David Benavidez recently turned down a fight offer against Terence Crawford. The undefeated boxer, known as 'El Monstruo', got the proposal to face Crawford at middleweight (160 lbs). Benavidez couldn't make the weight, so he had to say no.

Both fighters want to take on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Benavidez even gave up his mandatory position for a shot at Canelo. He's now looking to move up to light-heavyweight. Crawford, a four-weight world champion, aims to jump up two divisions to challenge Canelo.

Canelo hasn't shown much interest in fighting either of them. But he might change his mind for the right amount of money. Saudi Arabia could host the potential bout.

In an interview with Sean Zittel, Benavidez spilled the beans about the Crawford offer. Turki Alalshikh of Riyadh Season wanted to make the fight happen at 160 lbs.

"I'll tell you, he did mention one fight… He wanted me to go down to 160 to fight Crawford. I'm like bro I cannot do that. If I could be able to make 160 that would've been amazing, but I can't. I don't remember the last time I weighed 160 … I would love to share the ring with him just not at 160."

Crawford's main goal is to move up to 168 lbs to fight Canelo. He only wants to face the unified super-middleweight champion, which is Canelo right now. Crawford doesn't want to fight Benavidez at 168 lbs.

As things stand, Crawford seems more likely to land the Canelo fight. Benavidez has been chasing that bout for years. Now, he's set his sights on the winner of the undisputed 175 lbs fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

Alalshikh wants to make both Canelo vs Crawford and Canelo vs Benavidez fights happen. It looks like an exciting time for boxing fans, with these potential mega-fights on the horizon.
