Stevenson and Lomachenko are both lightweight champs and might face each other soon. They ran into each other in Los Angeles recently, and things got heated. Lomachenko said he'd make the fight happen in the future.
Lopez told ES News:
"Loma beats Shakur? Yeah."
He explained his thoughts on Stevenson in more detail to Cigar Talk:
"Shakur is a very talented, skilful, technique fighter. Can't take anything away from that. However, he's scared to get hit. Scared to get knocked out in front of the world. Scared to get touched up in front of the world."
Stevenson holds the WBC lightweight title, while Lomachenko has the IBF belt. At 36, the Ukrainian fighter is in his second stint as a lightweight champ and has won titles in three weight classes.
Lopez took Lomachenko's unified lightweight belts in their 2020 fight. Since then, Lomachenko has bounced back and regained a world title. He's not planning to fight for the rest of this year but says he's not retiring.
Stevenson claims Lomachenko will do anything to avoid fighting him. But for now, Stevenson will probably face William Zepeda next, who's the number one contender for his belt.
A fight between Stevenson and Lomachenko would be one of the most skillful match-ups in boxing. Fans will have to wait and see if it happens.
