Former world champion Chris Algieri commented on the words of Oleksandr Usyk that he is thinking about a return from super heavyweight to the first heavyweight.
"Usyk is not the kind of guy who trolls. He's not Terence Crawford who said, 'I'm going to move up in weight to fight this guy.' He's not Ryan Garcia who said he'd fight David Benavidez. Usyk is not a troll, he's a very serious guy, like all these Europeans.
So there must be reasons for that. And if Usyk says that, you have to believe him. That's what they're really thinking. I believe that Usyk doesn't want to fight other super heavyweights. I think he doesn't want to get in the ring with Zhang Zhilei because he's a powerful and much bigger guy.
Usyk is tired of dealing with bigger opponents. He said he's tired of eating to keep the weight on. If he loses to Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury, fine, that's understandable. But to lose to Zhilei or Joseph Parker..... Parker would be a difficult opponent for Usyk because of his style and ability to move. Obviously, Alexander is not as difficult as most of these super heavyweights, so maybe he will return to the first heavyweight," Algieri told ProBox TV.
