Jermall Charlo was arrested for drunk driving

Professional boxer Jermall Charlo was arrested in Texas this week. The charges include driving while intoxicated, fleeing an accident scene, and eluding police. Chad Rogers from the Pearland Police Department conveyed these details.

The arrest occurred after an incident involving Charlo's red Lamborghini at around 6:41 pm on Monday. He left the scene following a verbal altercation and continued for about a mile before police stopped him at a traffic light. His blood alcohol content was reported over 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Charlo was released on a $9,500 surety bond. His attorney Kent Schaffer stated that no drugs were involved and there were no serious injuries. Schaffer remains hopeful for a favorable outcome and emphasized Charlo's recent focus on training without any use of drugs.

In boxing-related news, the World Boxing Council (WBC) stripped Charlo of his title last week due to inactivity since June 2021. Carlos Adames has been upgraded to full world champion. The WBC also plans to collaborate with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) in evaluating Charlo's ranking as he considers moving up to super middleweight.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expressed support for Charlo’s mental wellness amid these challenges. This follows his return to the ring last November against Jose Benavidez Jr., which marked his first fight in 29 months and possibly his last for some time.
