Dubois on Hrgovic: "I'll go through him like a hot knife through butter"

Daniel Dubois is gearing up for a pivotal heavyweight clash against the undefeated Filip Hrgovic in Saudi Arabia on June 1st, 2024. Following recent victories and determined to overcome past defeats, Dubois is focused on proving his worth and fortitude in what promises to be a testing match.

Dubois began his professional career at the age of 18. He quickly gained attention for his powerful knockouts. However, challenges such as a severe injury during his 2020 bout against Joe Joyce and a consequential defeat to Oleksandr Usyk marked his journey. Despite this, he clinched a comeback win against Jarrell Miller in Riyadh last December on the Day of Reckoning card.

Approaching the fight with Hrgovic, Dubois acknowledges their previous spars and expresses confidence. "I’ve heard in interviews him talking about our spars but I remember before my fight with Nathan Gorman, he was talking about spars as well and he ended up on his back." He emphasized the importance of staying focused and disciplined to turn the fight in his favor.

Dubois also reflected on personal growth through adversity. "It ain’t changed me but it’s brought out something that was trapped in me. I got to show a little bit of it that night. Now I need to bring out more of it in this fight and get better and better each time," he stated. Brainstorming how critics have treated him fuelled his determination further:

"You can put them all into a group, all the naysayers... they’re quick to write you off and talk shit about you... You’ve got to quickly wise up and realize what’s really going on."

“On paper it’s a massive challenge but I feel in myself like I can make it as hard as I want it to be. It’s down to me to keep performing, do the right things in training, make sure I stay on it and go through him like a hot knife through butter.”
