Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez built his "ultimate fighter"

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the undisputed super-middleweight champion, recently outlined his version of the perfect boxer in a PPV.com interview. He spoke ahead of his upcoming bout against Jaime Munguia on May 4. The event is set to be broadcasted on DAZN and Amazon Prime pay-per-view.

Alvarez named boxing greats like Tommy Hearns for having one of the best right hands he has ever seen. He praised Julio César Chávez Sr. for his powerful left hand, Roberto Durán and George Foreman for their sheer power, Pernell Whitaker for exceptional footwork, and Floyd Mayweather for his high boxing IQ. Notably, Canelo chose himself when it came to having the sturdiest chin.

Canelo faces Jaime Munguia in what will be his first fight against a fellow Mexican since Julio César Chávez in 2017. His career began at only 16 years old and includes fights with major names like Floyd Mayweather and Sergey Kovalev. After going the distance in his last four contests without knockouts—a result below expectations—Canelo aims to reassert his prowess.

Munguia, aged 27 and still undefeated, is considered by many as the next big thing in Mexican boxing. Known for his high-octane style, this fight is crucial as it could symbolize a passing of the torch in Mexican boxing.

The undercard on May 4th features title fights including the WBA welterweight championship between Eimantas Stanionis and Gabriel Maestre. Also included are games for interim WBC titles in both featherweight and welterweight divisions.
