Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov Targeted for Tottenham Card: Why a Comeback Fight Still Carries Real Risk

Tyson Fury’s expected return against Arslanbek Makhmudov has already sparked debate, and former Oleksandr Usyk promoter Alexander Krassyuk believes the matchup makes sense for a comeback while still carrying danger in the heavyweight division.

Tyson Fury is being lined up to face Arslanbek Makhmudov in a 12-round heavyweight main event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, with the bout positioned as a major return fight for the former champion. The matchup has drawn attention after former Oleksandr Usyk promoter Alexander Krassyuk weighed in on Fury’s chances and the threat posed by Makhmudov.

For American boxing fans, this is the kind of fight that lands somewhere between a reset and a warning sign. Fury remains one of the sport’s biggest attractions, but every comeback in the heavyweight division comes with volatility, especially for a fighter trying to reestablish rhythm after time away.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Krassyuk said Fury does not have many fresh options left among the division’s top names and described Makhmudov as a sensible opponent for a return. At the same time, he made clear that heavyweight boxing rarely follows a script.

Krassyuk pointed to the Francis Ngannou fight as proof that even a perceived mismatch can turn dangerous fast. Fury was dropped in that fight, and that memory still shapes how this kind of booking is viewed. Makhmudov may not enter with Fury’s profile, but he is not being treated as a novelty opponent.

That is the real stake here. If Fury wins cleanly, the conversation immediately shifts back to the biggest available fights in the division and whether he can again position himself at the top of the heavyweight picture. If he struggles, or worse, gets dragged into another messy performance, the doubts surrounding his consistency and long-term standing only grow louder.

Makhmudov also has plenty to prove. In the U.S. market, he is still more threat than star, and a strong showing against Fury would instantly change that. A dangerous, physically imposing heavyweight who can push a returning former champion is always going to get attention on this side of the Atlantic.

Krassyuk still called Fury the clear favorite, but this is exactly why the fight will be watched so closely: in a division where one punch changes everything, the comeback narrative only holds up if Fury looks like Fury again.
