Ahead of a planned September rematch with Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao says he is approaching the second meeting with far more confidence than he had the first time around.

With a September rematch against Floyd Mayweather on the horizon, Manny Pacquiao says he believes this version of himself is better prepared for the moment than the one fans saw in their first blockbuster meeting. The bout has not only revived one of boxing’s biggest rivalries, but also reopened debate around whether Pacquiao can change the narrative from their 2015 superfight.

Pacquiao said he is energized heading into the second fight after dealing with too many distractions and a shoulder issue the first time he faced Mayweather. This time, he says the focus is simple: arrive fully healthy and fully ready.

"I’m excited because last time there were a lot of questions," Pacquiao said, according to BoxingScene. "I had a lot of distractions and problems with my shoulder. Now I feel inspired and strong, knowing that I need to be 100 percent ready for this fight. That’s my plan.

"I’m confident because I feel peaceful, the Lord has blessed me with health and strength. I’m confident because I’m still capable of fighting.

"I know Floyd. Everybody knows he’s a very competitive person. He never takes either a small fight or a big fight lightly."

For American boxing fans, that’s the real hook here. The first fight generated massive attention but left many disappointed with the action and the aftermath, especially after Pacquiao revealed he had entered the bout compromised. A rematch gives both men something to prove: Pacquiao gets a chance to show the first result came with an asterisk, while Mayweather gets another opportunity to shut down the debate completely.

The stakes go beyond legacy theater. If Pacquiao is competitive deep into the fight, the rematch becomes more than nostalgia and could alter how his late-career run is remembered. If Mayweather controls the bout again, it likely cements the original result in the eyes of the broader American audience and closes the door on one of boxing’s longest-running "what ifs."

Now the focus shifts to whether Pacquiao can turn confidence and health into a different kind of fight when the two icons are expected to meet again in September.
