De La Hoya was candid about his intentions for the pre-fight interactions. He stated,

"Yeah, I’m just going to speak the truth right when I’m promoting this and on the podium. Look, I’m not going to hold back. I’m gonna go hard. I’m going to talk sh*t like there’s no tomorrow. The sh*t that he’s talked about me, you know. I got all kinds of stuff, I got all kinds of stuff, fight week."

The relationship between De La Hoya and Alvarez has seen better days, stemming back to when De La Hoya suggested that Alvarez might benefit from a new trainer. Alvarez perceived this suggestion as a significant insult, prompting him to sever ties with Golden Boy Promotions publicly. Since then, Canelo has openly stated his lack of interest in maintaining any form of friendship with De La Hoya.

In terms of professional implications, De La Hoya touched upon what he sees as a pivotal moment in boxing’s super-middleweight division. He drew parallels between the upcoming fight and his historic bout with Julio Cesar Chavez. "I think it could be the changing of the guards," he remarked during the interview. Citing health issues Alvarez has faced recently, including operations on his knees and shoulders, De La Hoya highlighted what he perceives as 'the decline' in Alvarez's performance level.

Oscar De La Hoya is a former professional boxer who previously managed Canelo Alvarez under Golden Boy Promotions—a company founded by De La Hoya himself in 2002 after achieving numerous accolades in boxing. Meanwhlie Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez remains one of professional boxing's most prominent figures today.
