Rafael Espinosa (24-0, 20 KOs) quite unexpectedly won by majority vote of the judges Robeisi Ramirez (13-2, 8 KOs) in the main event of the boxing evening in Pembroke Pines. Thus, the Mexican took the WBO world featherweight title from the Cuban.
Espinosa started very actively and confidently scored points, taking advantage of his physical superiority. In the fifth round, Ramirez returned to the game, sending his opponent to the floor with a right hook. The following rounds were more even, but by the end of the fight the Mexican picked up the pace again.
In the final round, Espinosa bombarded his opponent with a series of unanswered punches, and Ramirez found himself on the floor. At the end of twelve rounds, the judges scored it 115-112, 114-111 and 113-113. As a result, the Mexican won the championship title for the first time in the professional ring.
On the same evening, heavyweight Richard Torres defeated Curtis Harper early, and Xander Zayas stopped Jorge Forteu by technical knockout in the fifth round.
