Javier Mendez, head coach of the AKA gym, told how Daniel Cormier won Sergei Pavlovich in training through wrestling.
“I used to enjoy watching his sparring sessions with Cain Velasquez and Cormier. Daniel only wanted to beat him in wrestling. No one could resist Sergei in a standing position. But in wrestling and grappling, Sergei was worse than them. Daniel would usually transfer him and then let him get up, just to knock him down again. He continued to do this, and before you knew it, Sergei was very tired. It was hard for him on the ground, but in a standing position he could fight with anyone,” the specialist said.
