Paul has had two fights this year. In February he lost on points to Tommy Fury, and in August he defeated Nate Diaz on points.

Paul's performances this year have generated a total of more than 1.3 million pay-per-view sales. In August, August returned to the ring after an almost four-year break. For Paul, this will be the second fight in his career with an opponent with experience in professional boxing.
