Jim Lampley to return to commentary

Andrew Karlov Aug. 24, 2023, 7:07 a.m.

Lampley will not be announcing the fight on Showtime PPV, but he will be working on location coverage during the week leading up to the fight on PPV.com and iNDemand platforms, which will broadcast the tournament, as is the case with most major US pay-per-view broadcasts.

Lampley will co-host the Canelo-Charlo televised chat on the day of the fight, as well as provide commentary and live coverage throughout the week leading up to the fight, and create original video content for PPV.com and social media platforms.

Lampley, who has worked on many of Canelo's fights on HBO, has done little boxing since the channel retired from the sport. He is now an adjunct professor at his home school, the University of North Carolina, but he will be happy to take part in such a serious fight again.

“For me, this is an interesting opportunity to see my many friends and colleagues from the world of boxing, and also add my humble opinion to all others during the week before the fight and the fight itself,” Lampley said. — So I can communicate directly with the fans through an interesting and respected forum. I'm impressed with what PPV.com has been able to do in a relatively short period of time since launching less than two years ago."

Lampley will co-host the Canelo-Charlo live chat along with boxing journalist Lance Pugmire, recipient of the 2022 Boxing Writers Association of America's Nat Fleischer Award for excellence in boxing journalism. He served as a senior chat editor at PPV.com and was responsible for posting video content on the site.
