Top American lightweight Michael Chandler explained why his former rival Dustin Poirier you should not move to a heavier weight category.

“I urge Poirier to abandon the transition to welterweight. If I were Dustin, I would not do this. He is not a very large lightweight. Some will say that he could even return to the featherweight division.

An illustrative example was during this whole situation with the disruption of the fight between Chimaev and Diaz, when Dustin stepped on the scales and showed only 77 kilograms.

I'm not a big lightweight either, right now I'm carrying around 85 kilos. I don't think Dustin would be smart about moving up to welterweight. Because getting hit at welterweight is much scarier than at lightweight. Dustin, stay in the lightweight division!" Chandler said in an interview with Daniel Cormier's YouTube channel.
