Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs) was appointed by the IBF to fight with Jaem Opetai (22-0, 17 KOs) as the next mandatory challenger. The boxing teams have time for negotiations until September 8. If they do not end fruitfully, the organizer of the championship match will be selected through a tender.
Opetaya has already fought Briedis, winning on points in July last year. The Latvian is the third contender proposed by Opetae in the last few months of the IBF. Previously, Mateusz Masternak and Richard Riakpo were mentioned in this capacity.
