On Saturday night Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) defeated Danielito Zorrilho (17-2, 13 KOs), defending his WBC light welterweight belt for the first time. After the fight, the American spoke about his plans for the future.
Rugaru suffered one defeat in his career, losing in October 2019 Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs). Prograis has been talking about a rematch for years, but now that the Scot has conceded Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs), his priorities changed.
“I won, but every time I fight, I want to look spectacular. I'm a little uneasy right now, I won't lie. I would like to fight Theo Lopez right now. Josh said he was moving up to welterweight and I'm the WBC super lightweight champion and that's where I'll stay. I think that the fight with Theo will be more interesting than the fight with Josh, especially since Lopez is a champion. He's the bigger name and he just beat Taylor and he did it convincingly."
“Another interesting choice would be Devin Haney. All these are big names, big fights and associations would be interesting. There is not a single fight that I would refuse. The money has to be right, and if it's right, I'll fight anyone," said the 34-year-old boxer from New Orleans.
