John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) lost in Mexico on Saturday Saul Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) in a one-sided battle. However, his tenacity impressed his promoter, Eddie Hearn.

“Canelo's strength, his form was fantastic. But John proved that he is a world class boxer, just Canelo is one of the best in history. Today, John deserves a lot of respect - he held on when it seemed that everything was already over for him. He stayed in the game. The more punches he threw, the more Canelo landed. It was a really worthy performance by Ryder,” said the head of Matchroom Boxing.

After the fight, Hearn suggested that he would try to arrange for his ward another duel with an opponent of a large caliber. It could be Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs), who for many years was a role model for a staunch Briton.
