Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) won by unanimous decision over the WBO mandatory challenger John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) in front of 55,000 spectators in the main event of the evening at Akron Stadium in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Canelo's constant pressure resulted in Ryder's nose and mouth bleeding by the third round. Also, the Mexican was able to send Ryder to the floor with a left-right deuce in the fifth round. The resilient Briton fought hard to the end and was able to live to see the final gong. Judges score: 120-107 and twice 118-109.

After the fight, Canelo stated that Ryder is a "very tough fighter", that after the operation his left is "very good", and that in the next fight he wants to take revenge on Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight. “If there is no fight with Bivol, then we'll see. I'm ready to fight everyone," Canelo added.
