Former WBC light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk (18-1, 14 KOs) returned from a short retirement and outboxed Josue Obando in six rounds. Last week, information appeared that the Ukrainian would return to the ring on May 6 in Mexico. In the main event of the evening, Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will put his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO super middleweight belts on the line against John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs).
Gvozdik's opponent will be strong Rickards Bolotniks (19-6-1, 8 KOs) from Latvia, who once took part in the eliminator for the WBA light heavyweight belt, but Joshua Buatsi stood in his way. Bolotniks managed to close this defeat with a victory on points over Khrvoe Sep, known from the Olympic ring. After this victory, Bolotnik did not box for almost a year, but he will definitely show Gvozdyk's true form.
Bolotniks was originally scheduled to play on April 1 on the Joshua-Franklin undercard, but his opponent, Craig Richards, suffered a hand injury.
