WBC appointed Yordenis Ugas (27-5, 12 KOs) and Mario Barriosa (27-2, 18 KOs) by the participants in the fight for the interim welterweight world title. This fight should take place in the summer in the USA.
Ugas, 36, previously held the WBA championship belt and last fought in April last year. Barrios, who holds the super lightweight belt, returned to the ring in February after a year-long hiatus.
The full champion of the World Boxing Council in this weight category is Errol Spence Jr., who has not boxed for almost a year, and is going to fight in the super welterweight limit next fight. Ugas is ranked second in the WBC rankings, and Barrios is fifth.
