Famous Ukrainian light heavyweight Alexander Gvozdyk stated that he understands the countries that have decided to boycott the amateur world boxing championship due to the admission of Russians to competitions.
“Athletes are an element of political influence. This is not unusual. They have always been used both on the one hand and on the other. In fact, these boycotts are bad for sports, but in this case it seems to me that the lives of people who die in our country are much more important than sports. Therefore, these are quite logical actions of federations and countries that boycott the championship.
This is politics. And, unfortunately, athletes have to suffer because of this. I'm talking about athletes from boycotting countries. For example, Switzerland, Sweden. He has been preparing all his life, and some politicians have decided - and that's all, stay at home. This is not very fair, but, I repeat, through the prism of the situation that has arisen today, it is logical," Gvozdyk said on the air of the Shipshina Show.
